Basic education plays a crucial role in human resource development in many countries. However, major challenges arise in rural areas, where limited access and limited infrastructure often create barriers to effective learning. The role of teachers in rural elementary schools is key in ensuring successful learning, but limited teaching methods are often an obstacle. This article discusses the application of scaffolding theory in improving learning at Sumber Jaya Elementary School. Scaffolding is external assistance from more competent individuals to children, helping them overcome difficult tasks. Application of this theory allows students to develop deeper understanding and important metacognitive skills. This research was conducted on grade 1 students at SD Negeri Sumber Jaya, with subjects who experienced difficulty in solving mathematics problems. In this context, Vygotsky's scaffolding theory becomes relevant, helping students reach their maximum potential. With the right external support, students can overcome their difficulties and grow cognitively and emotionally.
